Bipolar Forceps from Micromed – Precision for Every Surgical Procedure

The bipolar forceps have been developed to ensure the highest precision in delicate surgical procedures. They enable controlled manipulation with minimal thermal stress. Our products offer the highest precision and reliability for everyday use in the operating theatre. From power units to specialised instruments – everything from a single source. The bipolar forceps are used for dissection and coagulation. The tissue is coagulated between the tips of the bipolar forceps, thereby achieving haemostasis. With bipolar forceps, the current flows between the tips of the forceps and is therefore limited to this area. With monopolar forceps, the current flows from the forceps through the body to the neutral electrode. This is why bipolar forceps are safer to use than monopolar forceps.

In electrosurgery, the two tips of the bipolar forceps act as the active poles. When tissue is grasped between the tips and the coagulation current is activated, the current flows through the area of tissue immediately between them. A separate neutral electrode is not required for this bipolar circuit.
The shape, length and tip geometry influence access to the surgical field and the size of the contact area. For this reason, the Micromed range includes straight, angled, curved, internally angled and bayonet-shaped designs, as well as variants with different tip widths and handle shapes.
The selection of the instrument, the appropriate bipolar cable and the device settings must be made in accordance with the intended application and the instructions for use of both the instrument and the RF generator.

Applications of Bipolar Forceps

Bipolar forceps are used in various surgical disciplines for grasping, dissecting, and coagulating tissue. How do bipolar forceps work?
The bipolar forceps are connected to an electrosurgical unit and used for coagulation. This achieves hemostasis.
The tissue is specifically grasped with the two tips of the bipolar forceps and a current flows between them, thereby stopping the bleeding. In this application, no current flows through the body to the neutral electrode. In contrast to monopolar application, the bipolar technique is safer, gentler and requires less power.

What is bipolar hemostasis?
Bipolar hemostasis is a method of controlling bleeding by passing a high-frequency current between two tips of the bipolar forceps over the tissue to occlude blood vessels and stop the bleeding.

Are bipolar forceps reusable?
Bipolar forceps are generally reusable. They can be cleaned and disinfected by autoclaving or other suitable methods in order to be used again. The yellow bipolar forceps from MICROMED are for single use and are supplied sterile.

Classic Forceps
Classic – versatile standard designs
The Classic series covers a wide range of instrument shapes and dimensions for bipolar coagulation. Straight, angled, curved, inwardly angled and bayonet-shaped variants allow selection to suit the surgical approach. Depending on the model, different lengths and tip widths are available, as well as flat-plug or 2-pin versions.

ARGENTUM® Non-Stick
ARGENTUM® Non-Stick – for reduced tissue adhesion
The ARGENTUM® Non-Stick forceps are designed for applications where minimal adhesion of coagulated tissue to the contact surfaces is required. The polished precious metal tips facilitate continuous work; according to the instructions for use, any discolouration or tarnishing of the tips does not impair their function.
Various shapes, lengths, tip widths and handle variants are available, as well as models with a flat plug or a 2-pin connector.

Titanium forceps
Titanium – alternative material option
For users who prefer a titanium version, Micromed offers bipolar forceps in straight and bayonet-shaped variants. Depending on the model, different lengths, tip geometries and connectors are available. The specific technical features can be selected directly via the product view or the forceps finder.

Irrigated forceps
Irrigated forceps – for applications with an integrated irrigation channel
Bipolar irrigated forceps combine the coagulation function with an integrated irrigation channel. Micromed offers straight and bayonet-shaped versions with different tip dimensions and lengths.
During reprocessing, the irrigation channel must be cleaned with particular care and checked for patency. The product-specific instructions for use and the facility’s validated reprocessing procedures are decisive.

Sterile single-use forceps

Micromed’s sterile single-use forceps are intended for single use. The available models are supplied with an integrated cable. This eliminates the need to reprocess the instrument; after use, it must be disposed of in accordance with the applicable guidelines.
