What are bipolar scissors?
Bipolar scissors are an electrosurgical instrument that enables cutting and simultaneous haemostasis (coagulation) in a single step. They are connected to a bipolar HF surgical unit and are used in many surgical specialities, such as general surgery, ENT, neurosurgery, gynaecology and orthopaedics.
The high-frequency current flows only between the two blades of the scissors. This allows for targeted tissue coagulation whilst the scissors are cutting. This reduces bleeding and improves visibility in the surgical field.
Advantages of bipolar scissors The Queen
- Simultaneous cutting and coagulation
- Reduced blood loss
- Precise work, even in delicate tissue areas
- Fewer instrument changes during surgery
- Lower thermal stress on surrounding tissue compared to monopolar procedures -The Queen bipolar scissors are compatible with existing PowerStar® cables, making the switch straightforward.
How do bipolar scissors work?
The two scissor blades act as the electrical anode and cathode. When tissue is grasped between the blades, the high-frequency current flows exclusively through this tissue. The heat generated seals blood vessels (coagulation),whilst simultaneously severing the tissue.
Where are bipolar scissors used?

What is The Queen®?
The Queen® is a Micromed range of reusable bipolar scissors available in Tenotomy, Metzenbaum and Mayo configurations. Selected models are assigned as possible alternatives for users evaluating a change from specific Ethicon® POWERSTAR® BP references.
Is The Queen® identical to Ethicon® POWERSTAR®?
The Queen® is a separate Micromed product range designed as a high-quality successor to the Ethicon® POWERSTAR®. The article-number comparison is intended to support identification and product evaluation.
What is the difference between Tenotomy and Metzenbaum?
Tenotomy scissors are designed for particularly delicate dissections. Metzenbaum scissors are frequently used for general soft-tissue dissections.
What are the advantages of bipolar scissors?
Bipolar scissors allow cutting and coagulation in a single step. This reduces the need to change instruments and supports an efficient surgical procedure.
Are The Queen® scissors compatible with existing HF units?
Suitable cable variants are available for many systems. We would be happy to check the compatibility of your existing generator.
