An external fixator is an external device used to stabilize bone fractures and immobilize joints. It is primarily used in cases of complicated fractures, open wounds, and in the treatment of multiple trauma.
The external fixator consists of metal rods or frames that are placed outside the body.
The external fixator is connected to the bone using Steinmann nails, Schanz screws, dynamic screws, or conical fixation screws and stabilizes the bone fragments through tensile force.
