Micromed’s dynamic condylar plate systems are used in trauma surgery and orthopaedics for the surgical management of complex fractures, particularly in the periarticular region of long bones. The main area of application for condylar plates is fractures of the distal femur, particularly supracondylar and intercondylar femoral fractures. Furthermore, condylar plates are used in corrective osteotomies as well as in revision procedures following malunion or pseudarthrosis.
Another area of application for condylar plates is the management of fractures in osteoporotic bone, as the system enables stable force transmission. Thanks to the modular design of the condylar plates, dynamic condylar plates can also be used in cases of complex fracture patterns involving multiple-fragment zones when precise anatomical reconstruction is required. In selected cases, condylar plates are also used for fractures of the tibia close to the joint or for tumour-related bone defects.
A key advantage of dynamic condylar plate systems is their high biomechanical stability. The special condylar screw mechanism ensures stable anchorage in the metaphyseal bone whilst simultaneously allowing controlled compression in the fracture area. This achieves good primary stability, which facilitates early functional rehabilitation.
The anatomically pre-shaped plate allows for precise adaptation to the bone contour, which facilitates the restoration of physiological axial relationships. This is particularly important in fractures close to joints to prevent malalignment and preserve joint function in the long term.
A further advantage lies in the versatility of the system. Thanks to different plate lengths and screw options, the implant can be individually adapted to the specific fracture pattern. This makes dynamic condylar plates suitable for both simple and highly complex fractures.
Furthermore, they enable reliable stabilisation even with limited bone quality, for example in older patients with osteoporosis. Stable fixation reduces the risk of secondary dislocations and promotes secure bone healing.
Micromed’s dynamic condylar plate systems, featuring a 95-degree angle and condylar plates with 6 to 16 holes, represent a proven osteosynthesis method for treating fractures near the joint. Their advantages lie in their high stability, good anatomical fit and wide range of applications for different fracture types. As a result, they contribute significantly to functional recovery, early mobilisation and an improved prognosis for patients.
