An intramedullary nail is a medical implant used to treat fractures and lengthen the long bones of the leg. The intramedullary nail is inserted into the medullary cavity of the injured bone to stabilize the fracture and promote optimal wound healing.
The intramedullary nail can be locked at the ends with screws, allowing either dynamic or static fixation to be achieved.
